Product Description : 1972 CSPO Czech Fire Fighters Fireman Physical Training Competition Pennant Flag
I have this pennant in two variations, if you have a preference please let me know.
This is a 1972 pennant flag from 20th fire fighters games. These are very special competitions to test the readiness of fire crews every year, and they are still held today. Crews from every region enter a first heat competition against other teams from the area and practice their life saving skills.
Typically they carry volunteers, race to unroll hoses in the least possible time and practice cutting apart cars with tools.
This pennant flag is 22cm high and has a rope cord side stitched finishing in a hanging loop. The text celebrates the 20th anniversary of the fire service organisational structure after the world war 2 reforms.
    Historical Background
The CSPO were the socialist fire fighting organisation, the initials stand for  Ceskoslovenskeho svazu pozarni ochrany or The Czechoslovak Union of Fire Fighters.
The first fire service was established in Prague in 1853 and each city, town and village had it's own independently operated fire service made up mainly from volunteers. It wasn't until after the second world war that a central organisational body was created with a distinct chain of command reflecting military organisations of the period.
This information was taken from the official web site of the Czech fire service.
