    Description

Just released is this really beautiful fire apparatus challenge coin for the Spirit of Louisiana. Here's the story:
In the aftermath of the 9-11 attack in New York City, the citizens of Louisiana wanted to do something to help the City of New York. Lead by the Louisiana State Firemen's Association (LSFA), donations were gathered to build & donate a fire apparatus to help replace some of the lost FDNY apparatus. In record time, Ferrara Fire Apparatus in Louisiana constructed this rig, and in December 2001, it was delivered & donated to the FDNY. It went into service as Engine 283 in Brooklyn.
Fast forward to August 29, 2005 Hurricane Katrina struck the New Orleans Louisiana area, and one of the groups of FDNY personnel that came down to assist the City brought back the apparatus to now replace some apparatus that were lost in the flooding. The rig stayed in the area & served several communities after Hurricane Katrina, and eventually was "retired" & got an entire refurbishment from Ferrara Fire Apparatus, and now the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's office is the official caretaker. The Spirit of Louisiana still serves any Department in the state as an apparatus available for parades, funeral processions, or static display at various events.
However, the apparatus needs permanent housing, and hence the purpose of this eBay post. The proceeds of each coin sold will go to a special fund to help construct a building to house the Spirit f Louisiana, which will be located on the grounds of the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, immediately next to their
9-11 Memorial Site (which contains a steel section of one of the towers), and is also next to the Louisiana Fallen Firefighter Memorial site.
This coin measures 1" high by 4" wide 3.5mm thick and has silver metal base. Mailed First Class in padded pouch.
