    ARTIFACT:
    Wonderful 1890’s Col. Sise, Steam Fire Engine No. 2 Portsmouth Fire Department Memorial parade ribbon. The pinback features an ornate tin edged, copper frame that reads: “IN MEMORIAM.”, “PAT. W&H CO. NEWARK, N. J.” from which a black silk ribbon is suspended that reads: “COL. SISE S. F. E. CO. NO. 2, PORTSMOUTH FIRE DEP’T. WE’LL TRY” and shows a firefighter in action, holding a hose with billows of smoke at his feet and the base of the ribbon features bullion tassel embellishments. The reverse of the ribbon reads: “THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK, NJ” along the top near the pinback and the original cardstock label reads: “THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. RIBBON METAL AND CELLULOID BADGES, FLAGS & BANNERS. NEWARK, N. J.”

    Horizontal safety style pin and horizontal pin with ‘C’ type catch for suspension ribbon.

    “THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK, N. J.” on pinback and top of silk ribbon, “WAVING FLAG, JUNE 14th, 1892; ENAMEL IVORY BADGE BAR PAT’D OCT. 18, 1892. MAR.7.1893 OTHER BADGE PATENTS, JUNE 11, 1892. JULY 19, 1892. AUGUST 2, 1892. MEDALLION PATENTED JUNE 12, 1894”
